How to Prepare for GAMCA / Wafid Medical Examination in Mumbai

A complete step-by-step guide for Indian candidates attending GAMCA (Wafid) medical tests in Mumbai for GCC employment visas.

Introduction: Why GAMCA / Wafid Is Required

Before any GCC employment visa (UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain) can be endorsed or approved, destination governments require every foreign applicant to be medically screened and certified fit. This standardized examination is managed through the Gulf Health Council (GHC) under the unified Wafid (formerly GAMCA) platform.

For candidates based in Maharashtra or traveling to Mumbai for client interviews, knowing what to expect during the medical test eliminates anxiety, prevents avoidable delays, and protects against fraudulent clinics.

Step 1: Official Appointment Booking on Wafid

  • No Manual Clinic Selection: Under GCC regulations, candidates cannot choose their preferred doctor or clinic. The official Wafid online portal assigns an accredited medical center in Mumbai automatically.

  • Official Portal Fee: The nominal online registration fee is paid through the official Wafid website (wafid.com) using an international debit or credit card.

  • Beware of Agents Overcharging: Mahad Manpower advises all candidates never to pay middle-men exorbitant charges for appointments that cost a standard nominal fee on the government portal.

Step 2: What Tests Are Conducted?

The GAMCA medical evaluation consists of two major components: physical examination and laboratory diagnostics.

1. Physical & Clinical Screening

  • Blood Pressure & Pulse: Monitored to detect untreated severe hypertension.

  • Vision Test: Standard Snellen chart test for visual acuity (with and without spectacles) and color blindness test.

  • Physical Examination: General check for surgical scars, hernias, and physical deformities.

2. Diagnostic & Laboratory Panels

  • Chest X-Ray (Posterior-Anterior View): Extremely thorough screening to check for signs of active or past pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), fibrosis, calcified spots, or pleural effusion.

  • Blood Tests:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)

  • Infectious disease panel: HIV 1 & 2 antibodies, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) antibodies, and VDRL/Syphilis screening.

  • Blood sugar / fasting glucose check.

  • Urine Routine & Microscopy: Checks for protein, sugar, and microscopic traces.

Step 3: What to Bring on Test Day in Mumbai

Ensure you carry the following original documents to your assigned Mumbai medical center:

  1. Original Indian Passport with at least 6 months validity.

  2. Four recent passport-size photographs with white background (4x6 cm).

  3. The printed Wafid Appointment Slip showing your registration number and assigned center.

  4. Client Visa / Job Offer copy (if provided by your recruitment coordinator).

  5. Exact testing fee in cash or card as designated on the appointment slip.

Important Health Tips Before Test Day

  • Hydrate Well: Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to the test to prevent concentrated urine or borderline blood pressure readings.

  • Avoid Heavy/Greasy Dinners: Eat a light, balanced dinner the evening prior to blood testing to avoid artificially elevated triglycerides or fasting glucose.

  • Disclose Prescribed Medications: If you take prescribed medicines (e.g. for blood pressure), notify the attending doctor with your valid prescription.

  • Do Not Smoke or Drink Alcohol: Refrain from tobacco and alcohol for at least 48 to 72 hours before the examination.
